Launched in 2012, the program is made up of four separate components:

  • Public Access and Risk (PAR)
  • Significant Asset Protection
  • Risk based Coastal Plans
  • Coastcare Victoria.

Coastal Environments Program: Public Access and Risk

The Public Access and Risk component, which is in its fourth and final year, assists coastal Crown land managers in developing and implementing projects that identify, mitigate and monitor risk.

Coastal Environments Program: Significant Asset Protection

Significant Asset Protection undertakes priority works to protect public assets along Victoria's coastline resulting from coastal erosion damage and storm events.

The program is delivered by the coastal regions of Port Phillip, Barwon South West and Gippsland. The projects are selected following a thorough assessment process which includes:

  • onsite and desktop risk assessment
  • review by a coastal engineer and
  • consultation with the land manager
